Publication Ethics

The Multidisciplinary Journal of Sport (MJS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scholarly publication ethics and preventing all forms of publication malpractice. This ethics statement applies to all parties involved in the journal publication process, including editors, reviewers, authors, and the publisher. MJS refers to the guidelines and principles of scholarly publication ethics established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Duties and Responsibilities of Editors:

Editors evaluate manuscripts regardless of the authors' race, gender, religion, ethnicity, citizenship, or political views. The evaluation is based solely on the academic substance of the manuscript.

  1. Confidentiality: Editors and the editorial team are required to maintain the confidentiality of all information regarding submitted manuscripts and must not disclose it to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, editorial board, and publisher, as appropriate for the publication process.
  2. Conflict of Interest: Editors are not permitted to handle manuscripts that involve conflicts of interest, whether due to personal, institutional, or professional relationships with the authors.
  3. Handling Ethical Misconduct: Editors will follow up on any suspected publication misconduct, such as plagiarism, data fabrication, citation manipulation, duplicate publication, or other violations, in accordance with COPE guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers

  1. Contribution to Editorial Decisions: Reviewers assist editors in making editorial decisions and provide constructive feedback to improve the quality of the manuscript.
  2. Confidentiality: Reviewers are required to maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript under review and are not permitted to distribute or discuss the manuscript with other parties without the editor's permission.
  3. Objectivity: The review process must be conducted objectively, professionally, and supported by clear arguments. Personal criticism of the author is not allowed.
  4. Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers are expected to identify relevant scholarly work that has not been cited by the author and to report any indications of substantial similarity to other publications.
  5. Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must decline to conduct a review if they have a conflict of interest involving the author, institution, or research topic

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

  1. Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that the submitted manuscript is their original work and has not been previously published. All forms of plagiarism constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.
  2. Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication: Authors are not permitted to submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously or to publish the same research in multiple publications.
  3. Article Authorship: Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the research. All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript before publication.
  4. Data Access and Retention: Authors are expected to provide the research data if required for the editorial process and to retain such data for a reasonable period of time after publication.
  5. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Authors are required to disclose any sources of funding as well as conflicts of interest that could influence the results or interpretation of the research.
  6. Errors in Published Works: If an author discovers a significant error in their published article, they are required to promptly notify the editor to conduct a correction or retraction of the article.
